With sync on, scans stay in step between devices through the user's own private iCloud. On the Mac, scans can also be made with a nearby iPhone or iPad using Continuity Camera, or imported from PDFs and images. ## What it does - Scans paper with a nearby iPhone or iPad through Continuity Camera, finds the edges and straightens the page. Imports photos, PDFs and files, and accepts files shared from other apps. - Crop, choose a look, reorder pages; put 2, 4 or 6 scans on one sheet; see every sheet before sharing and drag scans to swap their places; choose A4 or US Letter and how large the scan sits on the page. - Identity cards: front and back on one sheet, or one side alone, printed at the card's real size (85.6 x 54 mm for a card; ID-2 and passport sizes too). Passports and modern ID cards from any country are recognised by their machine-readable lines. Identity cards, residence permits and driving licences are recognised and named in 16 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech and Hungarian. - Reads an ID's expiry date and offers a reminder 30 days before. The reminder never shows the document's name. - Suggests an editable document name and folder from the page. On supported devices, Apple Intelligence can offer additional grounded name suggestions with the on-device model; the person chooses what to keep. - Black out private parts (an account number, an address) before sharing. Shared files contain the black bar, not what is under it. - Sign with a drawn signature that can be reused; add text or the date. - Translate a document into another language as a new scan, in the original-style layout or as plain text. Apple's Translation framework processes the first translation on the device. On supported devices, an optional Apple Foundation Models review can run on-device or through Private Cloud Compute. - Touch ID or Mac-password lock for the app; password-protected PDFs; watermarks. - Search titles and the text inside scans. An ID's text is kept out of search unless the user chooses otherwise. - Optional sync between the user's devices through their own private iCloud. - Share as PDF (optionally with searchable text) or as pictures. Start a scan with Siri or the Shortcuts app. ## Privacy - The developer collects no data. The app has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no server of its own. - Scans are stored on the Mac and, if the user turns sync on, in the user's own private iCloud database, which the developer cannot read. - Text and ID recognition run on the device. Nothing is sent anywhere to recognise text. - Translation runs on the device by default. An optional on-device Apple Intelligence review keeps document text on the device. If the user explicitly chooses Private Cloud review on iOS or macOS 27 or later, where available, only page text is processed through Apple's Private Cloud Compute; Apple says it is not stored or made accessible to Apple. The developer never receives it. - Purchases are handled by Apple through the App Store. ## How it differs from other scanner apps - Translates a document into another language as a new scan, in the original-style layout or as plain text. Apple's Translation framework works on-device; an optional Apple Foundation Models review can run on-device or through Private Cloud Compute, where supported. Not a certified translation. - One-time purchase instead of a subscription. - No account and no cloud service run by the developer. - Identity documents are handled as such: real-size sheets, expiry reminders, text kept out of search by default. ## Common questions ### Which versions are available? NinjaScan Docs is on the App Store for iPhone (iOS 18 or later) and Mac (macOS 15 or later). One purchase unlocks both. On the Mac you can also scan with a nearby iPhone or iPad using Continuity Camera. With sync on, your scans stay in step between your devices through your own private iCloud. ### How many scans are free? Five. One scan is one saved document, however many pages it has. After that, a one-time purchase of $4.99 unlocks unlimited scans. That is the US price; the App Store shows the price for your country and currency. There is no subscription. ### I bought the unlock on another Mac. How do I get it back? Open the unlock screen and tap Restore Purchase while signed in with the same Apple account. You will not be charged again. ### How do I print an ID card at its real size? Scan the front, or the front and the back, save it as an ID card, then share. The ID sheet is set to real size by default; in your printer's options choose 100% or "Actual size", not "Fit to page". ### How do I sign a page or add text? Open the document and tap Sign & Text. You can draw a signature, type text or add today's date, then drag and resize it. Your signature is kept for next time. ### How do I hide part of a page? Tap Sign & Text, then Hide, and drag the black bar over what you want covered. Everything you share has the bar painted in. The original stays in the app, so you can tap the bar and remove it later. ### How do I translate a document? Open the document and choose Translate… from its menu. NinjaScan detects the language; pick the one you want and Same layout or Plain text. A translated copy is added as a new scan, with the original left as it is. It does not use a free scan. ID cards are not translated. A translation is not a certified translation. ### Is my document sent anywhere when I translate it? Apple's Translation framework processes the first translation on your device. Off keeps it there. On supported devices, On this device uses Apple's on-device Foundation Model to review wording. Private Cloud uses a larger Foundation Model through Apple's Private Cloud Compute; only page text is processed, and Apple says it is not stored or made accessible to Apple. The developer never receives it. Private Cloud review requires iOS or macOS 27 or later and availability varies. ### How do I get a reminder before my ID expires? When you save an ID, NinjaScan reads the expiry date and offers a reminder 30 days before. You can also set it from the ID's menu under Expiry Date. The reminder never shows the document's name. ### Which ID cards does it recognise? Passports and most modern ID cards from any country, through the machine-readable lines printed on them. Cards without those lines, such as many driving licences, are recognised and named in 16 languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Turkish, Dutch, Portuguese, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Danish, Norwegian, Finnish, Czech and Hungarian. For anything else, choose ID card yourself when you save. ### My card was not recognised as an ID. Open the document's menu and choose Mark as ID Card, or pick ID card in the save sheet when you scan it. ### My scans do not show up on my other device. Check that both devices use the same Apple account, that iCloud is on for NinjaScan, and that sync is on in the app's settings. Then tap Sync Now. ### I deleted a scan by mistake. Look in Recently Deleted from the home screen filters. You can put it back from there. ### How do I get a refund? Refunds are handled by Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in and choose the purchase.
